Bean Feasa ~ Woman of Knowledge

The Bean Feasa or Woman of Knowledge features widely in Irish Gaelic tradition. People would turn to the Bean Feasa in times of misfortune or affliction for advice or healing or cures. The Bean Feasa was much respected regarded as having supernatural powers.  Wear this as a symbol of the power and wisdom of women.

This is part of the Gaeilge ~ Irish language collection. Gaeilge or Irish is one of the oldest languages in Europe.  Outside the classical world of Greece and Rome, Ireland has the earliest literature in Europe written in Gaeilge, a language spoken commonly by the ordinary people. It belongs to the Celtic group of languages with is sister languages of Manx, Welsh, Breton, Cornish and Scots Gaelic.

Many of the early texts are sagas, stories about the myths and legends, exploring the universal stories of creation, heroic deeds, conflict, love and hate and the otherworld. Gaeilge has a legacy of a rich contextual and descriptive language

"Dóchas" is the Gaeilge word for hope.  It is made with a chunky little sterling silver bar which is double-sided just in case you need a quick translation into English.

The bar measures 30mm by 5mm and is on an 18" chain.  It is hallmarked in Ireland in Dublin Castle
