Water acted like a veil or medium in all the portals to the Celtic otherworld. It was believed you entered this realm through water in the sea, lakes springs and wells. Boann, the Irish cow Goddess, challenged the power of a spring by walking around it "tuathal"or counter clockwise, which resulted in the waters surging up violently and creating the River Boyne. This design is inspired by bubbling water and the watery film between this world and the other.
