Our ancient ancestors had a close relationship with nature and were intuitively aware they depended on the elements. Many of the passage and wedge tombs in Ireland are aligned with the rising and setting sun, darkness and light. At Dawn on the 21 December at the Winter Solstice the sun floods the light-box over the portal tomb in New Grange lighting up the passageway to the sacred basin stone marking the lengthening of the days and the rebirth of nature. This design explores openings and light and windows into our past.
