Cairdeas Dílseacht Grá - Friendship Loyalty Love
The Claddagh, has become an institution in Irish culture with the hands, the crown and the heart representing Friendship Loyalty Love.
The design possibly has Spanish links and is thought to have be based on the "Federing" which is in the Armada exhibition at the Ulster Museum.
Getting a Claddagh is almost like a rite of passage in Ireland. If you wear it with the heart tip pointing inwards it means your heart is taken, if you wear with the heart pointing out it means you're on the look out for love!!
