Scathach
Women are depicted as strong characters in Celtic mythology. "Scáthach" is a legendary Scottish Warrior woman who taught Cú Chulainn martial arts and how to fight with a Gae Bolg - a stomach sword! She is associated with the Isle of Skye and was said to live in Dunscaith Castle the ruins of which can still be seen today; Dun Scaith translated from Gaeilge means Fortress of Shadows. Many female Celtic deities were shape shifters changing their appearance, often appearing as ravens or crows in battle.
