Women are depicted as strong characters in Celtic mythology using powers of shape shifting and beguilement to outwit their foes. The Morrigan is a female Triple Deity made up of Badb, Macha and Nemain. In the Ulster Cycle during a cattle raid she meets Cuchulainn who mistakes her for the enemy. Shapeshifting into a crow she escapes and foretells of a Battle in which he will be defeated. The Morrigan is often depicted as a crow flying over warriors in battle.
