The Galway Hooker (húicéir), traditional to Galway Bay, has been in use for over 200 years. It was designed for the strong seas and was used among other things to carry turf across the Bay from Connemara to the Aran Islands and the Burren. It is distinguished by its elegant mainsail and foresails. I hope through my Irish jewelry designs to revive all the old Irish stories.
