This design is inspired by the cup and ring circle motif widely found throughout Ireland and parts of Europe on neolithic rock art. It is strongly associated with water. Brú na Bóinne, translated as "dwelling place of Boann", an early Irish goddess of the Tuatha Dé Danann, bears many of these circular motifs. Boann though forbidden to by her partner Nechtan, approached the otherworldly Well of Segais the font of all Wisdom, causing the waters to surge up violently, creating the River Boyne. Bóann also represents the phases of the moon: Bó Orann, the dark cow goddess for the new moon, Bó Ruad, the red cow goddess for the waxing moon, Bó Finn, the white cow goddess for the full moon and Bó Donn, the brown cow goddess for the waning moon. Perhaps the cup and ring circle represents the phases of the moon.

This pendant measures 37mm long and 11mm wide.
